Haas team leader Sternell stated that it is unethical for the Haas team to abandon the Ferrari engine and switch to another supplier just because of one year's difficulties.
The engine contract between the Haas team and Ferrari will expire at the end of 2021. Renault has already expressed that it welcomes new customers to use the Renault engine, so the Haas team can completely choose the Renault engine. However, the team leader Sternell said that this is wrong.
"I am a loyal believer, and so is Gini Haas (the team owner)," Sternell explained. "We can have today, and Ferrari is the foundation. Their work is great. Now they are having difficulties, of course we I know, but I think this is more likely to be a short-term difficulty that they will overcome. Ferrari can always get back. Leaving (Ferrari) whenever there is a chance, I think it is very immoral. Without them, we would not be where we are today."
Stenell said that a series of factors played a role in determining the Haas-Ferrari cooperation, including the establishment of part of the Haas team’s infrastructure in Italy.
"When we need to look at other opportunities, but other opportunities are very unlikely for us. We already have a part of the infrastructure in Italy," he said. "We may need to move everything to England, but it requires Money. Right now, our best solution is to cooperate with Ferrari and not be distracted by other things. Of course, if a manufacturer is willing to provide a power unit for free, we will be happy to listen."
Regarding the rumored Renault, Renault team leader Abitobull said: "We will not actively look for it. Renault has a long-term plan and a long-term contract in F1. This is a very good bonus. Of course, we are open to any opportunity. Open attitude
"But we will not take the initiative to look for customers, because we have arrangements with many customers, and we don't know whether new customers can bring substantial help to Renault's goals."
